Atelier Intro Sessions

Maybe you spend a lot of time in your head, thinking, imagining, doubting, while a part of you simply wants to start creating with your hands.

In these 4 evening or morning Atelier Intro Sessions, I will guide you step by step into the beautiful and ancient craft of lost wax casting. A technique where you sculpt your jewelry in wax first, which is then cast into silver.

You’ll experience how a small idea slowly takes shape under your hands. How wax responds to your tools. And how something that started as a simple block of wax becomes a ring you can actually wear.

By the end of these four evenings, you will have created and finished your own silver ring from scratch and gained a clear understanding of the entire process, from first idea to finished piece.

These Intro Sessions form the foundation for working in the Atelier. They are therefore a required first step before joining the Monday Evening Weekly Atelier Sessions, where participants work more independently on their own jewelry designs. This way everyone entering the atelier shares the same basic knowledge of the tools, materials and process.

What we will explore together

Evening 1 Entering the Atelier
You will be welcomed into the Atelier and introduced to the different waxes, tools and techniques used in wax carving. We’ll talk about design and begin shaping your very first ring in wax.

Evening 2 Shaping your design
We continue refining your wax ring and bring your design to life. Once finished, we prepare your wax model for casting. I will also guide you through how the casting process works, what the costs are, and where you can have your work cast. If you prefer, I can arrange the casting for you.

Evening 3 Meeting your silver piece
Your ring returns from the caster in silver. This evening is about learning how to finish your cast piece: removing the sprue, filing, sanding and shaping the metal.

Evening 4 Bringing it to life
The final evening is all about polishing and finishing your ring until it is ready to wear. We will also talk about how to develop new designs and how the process can evolve if you wish to create more pieces or small collections.

After the Intro Sessions

Once you have completed the Intro Sessions, you are welcome to continue your practice in the Monday Evening Weekly Atelier Sessions, where you can deepen your skills, explore other wax types and techniques, and develop your own jewelry designs at your own pace.

Many people discover that once they start working with wax, ideas begin to flow.

The sessions take place in my Atelier in Amsterdam, at The Baggerbeest.

Please note
The casting costs and silver are not included in the course price, as these depend on the final weight of your piece. All the wax needed for your creation and use of tools is included.
